Zoom in America

While this wasn't necessarily on my "bucket list" of things to do before I turned 50, it was still a novel experience hosting a Zoom Passover Seder for my family.

The original plan was for us to host my parents, my brother, and my sister-in-law at our place in the Berkshires sometime over the weekend in the middle of Passover, with us arriving a day or two early to prepare. Well, we ended up arriving three weeks early, leaving NYC in mid-March. And, since no one had to travel, we could all get together (virtually) for the first night of Passover.

We were quite fortunate that we were able to find everything we needed for the Seder plate and all the other customary foods. We also lucked out that my parents were able to get Zoom to work, and we all followed along in the family-friendly and modern Haggadah from Jewish Boston.

Best of all, Jeremy loves to cook for Seder, and this year his brisket was his best so far! Too bad we couldn't share it with the rest of the family.

All in all, it wasn't the same as being together, but the connection we felt to one another (and to centuries of Jews) was quite powerful at this time of isolation and broken routines.

This year's Seder will surely be one that we won't forget.

And, in the words of our 2020 Haggadah supplement, "Next Year in Person!"

P.S. We all also really enjoyed Saturday Night Seder and hope to work that into our plans again next year!
