What is it about the woods?

With months of good weather in the Berkshires, we had a chance to explore new parts of the nearby towns and find new trails to hike. We mostly kept to loop trails on fairly level ground. But, during our staycation at the end of August, I wanted to take it up a notch – and up a mountain.

Jeremy and the kids agreed to join me. So, we parked the car and headed up the Appalachian Trail (for real, not the Mark Sanford version – keep it clean, folks, the kids were with us!).

And then we kept going up and up some more.

We passed a few other hikers, some of whom looked like they were in it for the long haul. We paused at one point pretty far up, but then pushed ourselves to go just a little farther to what was supposed to be a great lookout - and, indeed it was!

Even more remarkable was when we made it down the mountain, back to the car, and then on our drive back to our house, we saw how high we had actually climbed!
