Pink; Filled with lemons

Most people who know me know how much I love a colorful cocktail. We have quite the bar in our home. But, we had yet to venture into the world of homemade spirits. So, for my August staycation, I decided to try TWO!

Our friends, Megan and Adam, had recently given us the book, Drinking French, as a gift. It has all kinds of fancy fun drink recipes, including one for Strawberry Liqueur. Using fresh strawberries and vodka, after a week, it yields a sweet but very strong spirit that we mix with other liquors and fresh juice to make some pretty colorful cocktails.

The second, and bigger, project was homemade Limoncello. The recipe suggests using the skins of organic Meyer lemons - which I couldn't find.

So, I split the difference and got half organic lemons and half non-organic Meyer lemons.

You mix them with grain alcohol and let it sit for a week to a month. We waited two weeks and then mixed the liquid with a large amount of simple syrup.

The results were so good that we are in the midst of making another batch that should be ready to celebrate New Year's!!
