Life is slow but it seems exciting . . . gourmet cooking

When you can’t go out to eat, and you have to cook all your meals, you try new things. I already bragged about my husband’s International Night weekly challenges the first couple months of quarantine. How to take it up a notch?

We were fortunate to be invited to an online cooking class with Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

The shopping list was our first challenge – avocado oil, kaffir lime leaves, kombu – lots of ingredients that are hard to find, never mind during a pandemic. We did the best we could and got everything prepped.

We were able to keep up for about ten minutes and then things were on their way to “Nailed It” territory. We decided to just watch a genius at work and then do the cooking after he finished.

While it didn’t look as gorgeous as his version, it still looked pretty, and it tasted good.

It was nice to have a gourmet meal for just the two of us, even if we had to make it ourselves. And, a cooking class with a world-renowned chef was definitely a new experience!
